|This small carved African carved figure can be used alone or as part of a collection of African artifacts. Culture of the African continent is as diverse as European. The British slave trade took place on the west coast and we have collected a range of artifacts to represent the numerous tribes living in that area. Students have usually got the preconception that African culture was extremely primitive. Such carvings are often very stylised and made of wood, bone or soapstone, which were all relatively easy to carve. Some were buried in fields to aid fertility. Other wood carved figures represented important features of African life such as hunter or blacksmith. You may also like the mask, and the CD of African music alongside the bracelet. The item is hand made and therefore may differ slightly from the one illustrated here.
